Nutrition and Wellness Classes PDF Print E-mail

We are happy to report that our first two Nutrition and Wellness classes of the year were well received and greatly enjoyed by those attending.  In February, our delightful presenter from the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Sandra Varno, shared strategies for reducing “mindless eating” out of stress or boredom, and for enjoying food more and paying attention to the experience of eating.  Afterward, small teams worked to prepare delicious and healthy recipes for soups and stews for all to taste and enjoy at the end of the class.

The March topic was “Cooking for the Well-Seasoned Citizen”, where we learned how to plan meals for maximum enjoyment and nutrition, reducing sodium content by enhancing flavors with herbs and spices.  We got great tips on freezing and drying herbs, The cooking and tasting menu this time included several salads, roasted vegetables, a chicken and asparagus wok dish, and even a warm fruit dessert.  Yummm!

A great time was had by all!  So be sure to save the date for our third and final class on Tuesday, October 23 @ 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  This one, titled “Have a Healthy and Stress Free Holiday,” is designed to provide strategies to help plan for the holidays by keeping healthy and energized.  Then we will prepare some delicious but lighter holiday recipes which we’ll surely enjoy serving to our family and friends over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Sign-up will begin in September, so watch for the notices in Sunday Bulletins and the BLC STAR!  You won’t want to miss it!

PORTALS OF PRAYER PROJECT PDF Print E-mail

The Women's ministry team is looking for 2 or 3 women who would like to help with a special Portals of Prayer project.  This will require a small time commitment, but it is a very worthwhile chance to help.  We want to collect copies of “Portals of Prayer” to mail at regular intervals to a local prison for the use by the inmates.  This program is through the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and is being carried out by many of the women's groups at our Synod churches.  We will not be visiting the prison, only collecting and sending the copies. Please consider taking on this special chance to serve your Lord and get the message out!  For more info please contact team leader, Judy Nestlen (768-2602 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
